Before you get up in arms, please allow me to elaborate. Also there is a possibility I've talked about this idea before but I haven't written a full post on it. Now before I go any further, let's discuss what motivation is. The reason or reasons one has for acting in a particular way. Breaking it down, it is the reason that people do things. It's not entirely correct to say that it doesn't exist at all, however the idea that you'll suddenly become motivated doesn't exist.
What you want to discover is a work ethic. Instead of searching for something that may or may not exist, the correct path is to build something for yourself and work based off of that. When I have this discussion with my peers, I tend to use myself as an example. In my early teen years, I was short and fat, 5'2 give or take and 140lbs. Like I said, short and fat. In my later teen years, I grew and stopped eating because I was addicted to playing video games. Now I was about 5'9 and 140lbs. Creating my work ethic and my habits started when I decided to cut back on sugar one day to see the effect it would have on my body. I was tired of being the skinny kid. The healthier lifestyle is something I discuss and elaborate on often, because people tend to misconstrue how I went about it. I did not stop eating sweets cold turkey. I started by cutting out soda slowly, several weeks before a deadline. Following that with cookies and candy. Then more processed food further down the line. I wasn't working out 10 hours a week all of the sudden. I had to train my body and my mind to be able to reach that point.
Now that isn't to say that some people can't pick up traits or abilities and perform incredibly at them from the beginning. Those people are both gifted and lunatics, but they have my jealousy. If you want to assume that you are an average individual then follow in my footsteps. I thought myself to be average, no major define qualities one way or the other accept for a decent sense of humor. My job was to look at how I could change myself objectively and then work towards those goals. You can't climb Everest after a week of training which relates to the fact that you can't start on a heavy weight program after years of not training. No matter what the scale of the goal you want to accomplish you can down size it to the tiniest step and that's where you start. A healthier lifestyle starts with eating vegetables a few nights a week. Learning how to play piano is finally going out and buying those lessons. Becoming a comedian involves getting on stage and bombing.
Motivation in this sense doesn't exist because that would make what you are trying to strive for easy. And absolutely nothing in this world worth fighting for or achieving is easy. If it were easy, that'd mean it'd be given to you. Any human who is true to themselves knows that it feels much better when you work for something. Even if we say that we want to fall into money, a beautiful home, or a beautiful woman. If we think about it, it wouldn't feel the same as putting the work behind it. Develop that work ethic, that self worth, the pride, and go kick some ass.
